What is this thing good for?

The idea behind this (proof-of-concept) project is to help IT-security professionals to get and stay informed. It is some sort of a vertical search engine, but without the need to enter specific search terms. It is based on my bachelor thesis, you can find some background info here (German only).

In fact, often you only want to check out "what's going on" in a wide context, without narrowing down your focus too much. If you have reached this site, your search context is simply "IT-Security". That is why you don't want to search for a specific term. Hackerei helps you with an unbiased, but relevance-sorted collection of terms, which may interest you. Subsequently you may dive deeper once you find terms which are of specific interest to you.
How do you decide about the relevance of terms?
Actually it's not me who decides! The algorithm behind this is based on the results of an empiric survey, in which the participants were asked to grade several online resources. The calculation takes these results, mixes them with the terms popping up on some of the major security websites, multiplies it with random magic numbers and here you got the result on hackerei.com.
Some values have changed...?!
The weight of the terms get devalued constantly. However, as this is still proof-of-concept, the calculation method changes slightly from time to time (a.k.a improvement :-). That is why values for certain terms might look a bit different if you return again later.
Where does the name "hackerei" come from?
I was thinking about a good name and passed by a bakery, whose german translation is "Bäckerei". And as I like fresh bread... isn't it obvious?
Who is the author?
My name is Marco Schnüriger, living in the beutiful city of Zurich. I work in the field of IT-Security and I'm joint partner of appsphere.
Are there any further development plans
Of course :-)
I think you spend too much time in front of a computer!
You may be right, but this project is the result of my bachelor thesis in business IT at the HWZ University of Applied Sciences Zurich. I had the choice of plain boring topics like "the effect of high churn rates to the performance of IT systems" or "how can IT save the world", but I decided to have some fun with this project.
